Bands of America | Grand Nationals 2007

I just realized a day or two after posting this that it made no sense. Sorry about that. What I mean: I went to Indianapolis for a Marching Band competition. I don’t play music but I do march with the colorguard (the flag people). My high school made 9th in semi-finals and 12th in finals. In prelims there were 85 to 90 bands, semi-finals cut down to 30 bands, and finals was 12 bands. I have to say we did really well in order to get into finals. It was our first time going to Grand National, so it was a big deal.

On November 15 (aka last Thursday) we left at 6:30 am to go to Indianapolis. We got there around 4 pm and practiced a little bit before eating Donatos burnt pizza & drinking hot chocolate. We left the high school to go to the Marriott hotel. It was really nice place! Unfortunately, I got stuck as room head. Just my luck. At least we got to leave the bus and beat the crowd onto the elevator.

Next morning (Nov 16), I had to get up at 4:45 am! It was so not fun at all and I was really tired. But, we managed to somehow get everything done before warm-ups. We performed at 9:30 am and we did pretty decent. Before we even knew we made semi-finals, we had another practice (it was getting really annoying).

The great thing was semi-finals with a 90.95 score (placing 9th out of 32 bands in the semis). I have to say our semi performance was considered spectacular and it was the highest score our school’s band has ever made. If anyone saw our finals on TV, I would like to say: What channel was it on?

This year was great and I am sad (kinda) that it ended. BUT! I am auditioning for winterguard next week. I hope they tell us what our show is soon!
